Wood Pellets
Where are they from and how they are made
Wood pellets are a natural resource that comes from left over materials made from wood. Commonly, they come from wood mills from the form of scrap wood. But they are also obtained from furniture manufacture, recycling centers, roadside scrap, nuts, sawdust, logging residue and paper packaging plants. A pellet manufacture will then dry, compress and form the scrap wood into small cylinder shaped pieces of wood, similar to the dynamics of rabbit food. The wood pellets produce very clean and are environmentally safe.
Where to buy Wood Pellets for stoves
There are two types of wood pellets being produced; standard and premium grade. The premium grade has less inorganic ash than the standard grade. With the ease of manufacturing and transportation many companies are now producing wood pellets across the nation. There are currently over 60 pellet mills in production. They are generally packaged in 20 to 40 pound bags and can often be purchased by the ton. To find wood pellets, look in your local building supplies, hearth appliance stores and some feed supplies. The average price of wood pellets are now $2.50 to $4.00 a pound, depending on where you live. |
